Equality

As the women's committees are due to be wound up shortly in anticipation of the newly constituted Equalities Forums, the North Eastern divisional council would like to place on record its sincere thanks to all those who have been involved both divisionally and nationally.
It was thanks to the women's committees, under the guidance of Bernadette Hillon in the early days, that women's issues were pushed up the trade union agenda. The tireless work undertaken by the women activists ensured that the work of Usdaw reflected the gender make up of the union.
The divisional council also want to give its best wishes to the newly formed Equalities Forums in their efforts to raise awareness around the issues of race, disability, sexuality, and women's issues.
