Information from the Labour Research Department
The Labour Research Department (LRD) have produced three new booklets to help union reps keep up-to-date with the latest information.
Information and consultation - a guide to the new Regulations (priced £5.15) takes a close look at the 'Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004', which became effective in April 2005. Staff in larger organisations now have the right to be consulted on their working practices, their employment prospects and other issues.
Health and safety law 2005 (priced £8.50) is an essential guide for all health and safety reps.
The booklet has been updated to contain all the latest developments in health and safety including vibration, work at height, working time, hazardous substances and safety information.
It also touches on corporate manslaughter, new regulations on civil liability, a law banning smoking in most workplaces and a new Fire Order as well as new noise and construction regulations.
Black and minority ethnic workers - tackling discrimination (priced £6) looks at what trade unions can do and are doing to recruit, organise and support black, minority and ethnic workers, particularly at branch level. The booklet gives examples of how to tackle racism and discrimination in the workplace.
All three booklets can be ordered from the Labour Research Department, 78 Blackfriars Road, London SE1 8HF. (020 7928 3649) or visit: www.lrd.org.uk
