Network Journal 2005 Issue 3

Advice for funeral industry workers

It might seem a gruesome subject for some, but the risk of infection from handling human remains is a major concern for Usdaw members who work as undertakers and embalmers.

Now the HSE has published a free guidance booklet - Controlling the risks of infection at work from human remains - that provides simple advice on the basic precautions that can protect workers.

An appendix also lists some of the more dangerous infectious diseases and advises on the precautions that should be followed for them.

The guide is only available as a web-based document on the HSE web site at: www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/web01.pdf

Any members who cannot access the internet can get copies from the health and safety section at central office.
