Morrisons sells stores in Northern Ireland

Morrisons has sold 12 former Safeway stores in Northern Ireland to Asda/Wal-Mart for £73 million, subject to clearance from the Office of Fair Trading.

Usdaw has moved quickly to reassure staff in the stores and will seek an early meeting with the new owners. "We want to continue the positive relationship we have with Morrisons with Asda/Wal-Mart," said Usdaw national officer Joanne McGuinness.

"It's always a worrying time for staff when a new owner takes over. Our members are loyal and hard-working and we want to reassure them we will do everything we can to protect their terms and conditions and help them with any questions they may have."
