Health and safety - news in brief
Latest news on a major conference for the food and drink industries and a new forum formed by the HSE on health and safety in the warehouse and distribution sector. Further details below:
- A major conference on H&S in the food and drink industries is to be held on October 26 at the CCFRA, Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire. Supported by the food industry trade unions, the Food and Drink Federation and the HSE, the agenda includes occupational health issues such as WRULDs, work in hot temperatures, multicultural and multilingual issues and drug and alcohol policies. The cost will be £250 per delegate, but with a special reduced fee of £70 for trade union safety reps. Details will shortly be circulated to food industry branches.
- The Health and Safety Executive has formed a new forum on health and safety in the warehouse and distribution sector. The forum involves representatives from the main trade unions as well as employers' organisations and the enforcing authorities. At the first meeting of the forum in May, it was agreed that a first priority should be the production of an updated version of the HSE guidance document "Health and Safety in Retail and Wholesale Warehouses". Doug Russell represents Usdaw on the forum. If there are any safety reps in the warehouse and distribution sector who want to find out more or who have particular concerns about risks that the forum should be addressing please contact him at Central Office, 0161 249 2441, or e-mail Health and Safety .
