ADM 2005 – health and safety debate

Health and safety made its regular mark on ADM with delegates keen to protect their members from injury at work.

Nerys Griffiths Suarez North West Retail Co-op spoke up for members in the funeral sector who face difficulties with potential infection and lifting problems. She also called for minimum staffing in shops so staff are not left vulnerable to attack.

Stephen O'Connor, West Midlands Retail Food No.1 urged the Government to make employers liable for any injury caused to staff by their customers.

Adrian Hollows, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, called for free eye tests for staff on VDU checkouts.

John Barstow, Mid Sussex, wants employers to provide more protective equipment for staff subject to dangerous levels of sunlight.

Monica Harris, Guildford, won conference support when she called for free workplace flu jabs to be made available to staff.
