Campaigns - news in brief
Read more about a South Wales police station in a supermarket and how Dixons pilot scheme is helping staff to deal with crime.
- South Wales police who set up a police station in a supermarket have reported a fall in crime. A four-week trial period in November at the Sainsbury's store in Bridgend's McArthur Glen shopping complex saw regular patrols, and good communication have a positive impact on the level of incidents within the retail centre.
- A new pilot scheme to train shop staff from Dixons as special constables has proved a huge success with theft and fraud in those shops down by half. The volunteer group of six staff from Camden, North London, received their training from the Metropolitan Police. A spokesperson said the training gave staff a better understanding of how criminals operate and are now more confident in dealing with crime.
