New workplace guides out now
Law at work 2004 - provides union reps with a comprehensive guide to employment law including the most recent changes included in the Employment Act 2002.
The booklet looks at the new requirement that all employers should have disciplinary and grievance procedures in place by October 2004.
New rights are explained on discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and religion, as well as a number of rulings clarifying employment rights. Reps will find the updated guide to health and safety law includes all the significant developments in safety law over the last year, such as the removal of the civil liability exclusion, the extension of the working time rules, the banning of mobile phones while driving and the new duty to manage asbestos.
The guide is essential for all workplace health and safety reps. It also shows how reps can use the law to tackle the growing problems of stress, bullying and violence at work. Debilitating conditions like back pain and repetitive strain injuries are among the most common work-related health problems. But many of these injuries can be prevented by taking measures to alter the task or work environment.
- Pain at work - an LRD guide to musculoskeletal disorders provides a useful understanding of the issue and will help reps prevent back pain and RSI.
- Law at work 2004 (£11.95), Health and safety law 2004 (£6.95) and Pain at work - an LRD guide to musculoskeletal disorders (£4.50), are available from the Labour Research Department, 78 Blackfriars Road, London SE1 8HF (020 7928 3649) www.lrd.org.uk.
