First time delegates have nothing to fear and everything to gain at conference
Bath shop steward Adrian Collins attended his first ADM last year and spoke in favour of a proposition on body mapping and repetitive strain injury.
"It was pretty daunting getting up to speak for the first time," he said. "It seemed like a long walk up to the rostrum, but once I got up there I felt fine. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole conference experience. I didn't have a clue what to expect beforehand.
"The eve of conference meeting was excellent. Here the whole process of conference is explained to new delegates and visitors. It was amazing walking onto the conference floor for the first time. I really felt I was part of something special.
"The conference debates were at times very passionate, with a lot of the speakers using their own experiences to highlight the proposition.
"Lunchtimes and evenings I went to fringe meetings and get-togethers, and then there's the social events, which are a must for every delegate and visitor.
"The four days just flew by. I made a lot of new friends. It's a fantastic learning experience. I came home full of enthusiasm and a desire to get even more involved. Look out for me this year because I'll be up on the rostrum moving a proposition from our branch."
