Did you know?
Usdaw was the first trade union to set up its own Academy.
- The Academy is now a key part of the union’s organising strategy.
- Usdaw’s Academy is now recruiting for its sixth year.
- By the end of 2007 the Academy will have trained Usdaw reps as Organising Officers.
- As an Organising Officer you will have six months paid secondment to the Academy.
- The Academy has recruited nearly 30,000 new members so far in the last four years.
- Academy Organising Officers have identified more than 2,000 new activists.
- Organising campaigns have been run in more than 300 workplaces across the UK including Sainsbury, Ikea, Tesco, Argos and the Co-op.
- The Academy is fully accredited which means that Organising Officers receive an externally recognised qualification.
- In the past Organising Officers have returned to their workplaces to continue with their union work. In some cases this has led to appointments with Usdaw as recruitment and Development Officers or Area Organisers. Some have also gone on to work elsewhere in the trade union and labour movement.
