Organising AcademyBuilding the unionUsdaw was the first union to set up its own Academy which started in 2003 with 15 organising officers. In 2004 18 organising officers were taken on and in 2005, 23 organising officers were recruited. In 2006, 29 organising officers were put through their paces and in 2007 we have taken on 24 new organising officers. Did you know? Usdaw was the first trade union to set up its own Academy. Now is the time to apply Last year’s organising academy has provided a massive membership boost with a staggering 10,000 new members and more than 1,255 new activists and reps recruited during the six month period. Sharon Newson's experience Working with the academy has been a fantastic experience, for 42 year-old part-time Tesco team leader Sharon Newson. What's the Academy all about The Usdaw Organising Academy provides Usdaw reps with the opportunity to spend six months on secondment to Usdaw combining residential training with participating in a variety of organising projects. |
