questions

Can my employer refuse or stop my pay for attending ante-natal classes?

questions

No they cannot. The right to take paid time off for ante-natal care applies to all pregnant employees. It does not matter how long you have worked for your employer, how many hours per week you work, whether you are permanent employee or on a short-term contract.

answers

Ante-natal care includes:

  • Appointments with your midwife, GP or hospital doctor
  • Ante-natal and parentcraft classes
  • Relaxation classes

Paid time off for ante-natal care is a specific legal right given by the Employment Rights Act 1996.
