Am I and/or my partner entitled to adoption leave?

When a couple adopts, only one parent has the option of ordinary and additional adoption leave. The other parent may take paternity leave. Both may take parental leave. Both have employment protection rights.

  • Ordinary adoption leave 26 weeks paid
  • Additional adoption leave 26 weeks unpaid

Adoption pay is 90% of average weekly earnings or £100, whichever is lower. To qualify you must earn not less than the lower earnings limit for National Insurance Contributions.
