The next step is to find out where and when the next Union Learning Reps courses are taking place in your area. You can get this information from your local Usdaw Lifelong Learning Project Worker. Contact your Area Organiser for your union local office address details and telephone number or contact your Lifelong Learning Project Worker.
The initial training will consist of the basic Union Learning Reps training course, which is usually five days in duration and is delivered one day per week over five weeks. The course is accredited through the Open College Network and is delivered for Usdaw by the TUC. Additional courses for Union Learning Reps include, Basic Skills Awareness and Workforce Development.
Union Learning Reps now have a statutory right to time off to carry out their training and duties. A Code of Practice has been developed by ACAS to support the legislation and to give practical guidance on applying the new rights. This code can be downloaded from the Lifelong Learning section of the web site.
Further information on the role and responsibilities of the Union Learning Rep is available in the Usdaw publication entitled the Union Learning Representative.
