You don't get the chance to speak and vote for or against any deal being negotiated. If you have any problems at work you are on your own. You can't call on the shop steward or Area Organiser for advice, let alone assistance if you're not an Usdaw member.

You harm yourself too because every non-member in a workforce tempts management to pay less attention to union officers who are negotiating with them.

Remember also, these benefits that you enjoy because of the union's efforts are paid for by those you work with. It is not fair to them if you don't pay something towards providing these benefits.
