Carers Spotlight Day
There are many hundreds of Usdaw members who play a vital role caring for disabled, elderly and vulnerable relatives or friends. Unfortunately carers often receive very little recognition or support from their employer for the valuable work they do.
On June 11, Usdaw will hold the third of its campaign spotlight days with the focus on carer's rights. The day will highlight the real problems carers have at work and why Usdaw is pressing employers and Government for real improvements.
We will be trying to do three things on 11 June:
- To raise awareness of the pressures Usdaw members who are working carers are under.
- To raise awareness of the work Usdaw is doing to support carers.
- To urge government and employers to do more for carers in work.
You can support the day by doing any of the following:
- Ordering copies of our working carers leaflet 343 and new leaflet on time off for dependants and giving copies to members and non members in your workplace.
- Holding a 'Supporting Carers' stall on 11 June - if you have a staff canteen this is usually the best place for a stall.
- Ask your MP to visit your workplace to talk to carers about the issues they face. You can get help on how to set up an MP's workplace visit by contacting the Usdaw politics office on 0161 224 2804.
