Women1) Breast Cancer AwarenessOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 2) Women’s No Pay Day On 30 October Usdaw will be supporting a campaign to raise awareness of the gap between men’s and women’s pay. This day has been called Women’s No Pay Day to help raise awareness of the fact that women lose out on pay. 3) Pregnant and productive The Equal Opportunities Commission have launched the first ever investigation into pregnancy discrimination at work. 4) Domestic violence – a workplace issue In April 2003 Usdaw launched an updated version of the Domestic violence leaflet at the Women’s fringe meeting. Nicola Harwin CBE, the Director of Women’s Aid in England addressed the meeting as did women that had themselves experienced domestic violence. 5) Alcohol and Pregnancy The National Women’s Committee will be adding a new leaflet to their series of Women and Health leaflets. 6) Term time working We know from our members that school holidays are a real pressure point for working parents. One really helpful option for parents is the ability to work term time only. Unfortunately very few employers offer term-time working. 7) Women in the global supply chain Usdaw has recently been working with the TUC and an organisation called 'Women Working Worldwide' to begin to raise awareness of the extreme poverty and dangerous working conditions of women at lower end of the global supply chain employed in developing countries. 8) Paid time off for fertility treatment You may have noticed that a couple of months ago, fertility treatment hit the headlines. |
