From April 2007 parents and carers have important new rights at work.
- All women are entitled to 52 weeks' maternity leave
- Statutory Maternity and Adoption Pay have been extended from six to nine months, rising to a full 12 months from April 2009
- The right to request flexible working has been extended to carers of adults
