Flexible working – letter to your MPDate: 22 September 2005 This is a model letter which can be used to write to your MP to show your support for Usdaw’s parents and carers flexible working campaign. Parents need to be able to work flexiblyDear __________________ All parents want to make sure that they can be there when their children need them, but many working parents find it very difficult. Many people are asked to work long hours, especially at busy times, and this can include school holidays, evenings and weekends - times when it is almost impossible to find childcare and when we would all prefer to be with our families. School-age children often need a lot of their parents' time and support - especially when they are having difficulties such as bullying, exams, illness or behaviour. I am writing to ask that the Government allow parents of all children up to 18 to be able to request to work flexibly so that they can be there for their children when they are needed. Not only would it help parents, but also schools, the police, communities, government and - most of all - children. Yours sincerely
