TUC Disability Petition

Usdaw is fully committed to supporting the TUC’s petition calling on Government to make significant changes as a matter of urgency to the Disability Discrimination Act via its promised new Disability Bill.

Below are just some of the changes the TUC is rightly calling for:

  • The definition of disability: The present law excludes people who are clearly disabled because of the narrow and restrictive definition within the Act of "disability". Those with mental health problems are particularly badly affected.
  • Create a duty to promote equality: We don't just want a negative requirement not to discriminate, we want the law to make employers positively promote the idea of equality and the positive benefits to everybody of diversity.
If you want to help the TUC collect signatures then visit the TUC web site to download a copy of the petition.
