9) New leaflet on representing disabled members
Usdaw has produced a new leaflet for reps about how best to represent disabled members at work. Research shows that one in seven people has a disability and thousands of disabled workers face discrimination every day at work. This is therefore an issue that is bound to affect hundreds of our members.
The leaflet explains to reps the basics of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and encourages them to think more broadly about what might constitute a disability under the provisions of the DDA. A vast range of conditions have been found to fall within the definition of 'disabled' by Employment Tribunals extended protection to those with illness and disabilities as diverse as migraine, cancer, severe period pain, post natal depression and eczema.
