3) Help finding a job
Nearly one in five people of working age in the UK have a long-term disability that affects their ability for work.
Only 47% of these people are in work. Many more would like to work, but have not had the opportunity or support to do so.
The Labour Government have set up assistance and worked with employers and trade unions to increase opportunities for people
with disabilities to work if they are able to, so that they improve their income and quality of life.
Some time ago now, the Government introduced the New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP). This is designed to help disabled people and those with long-term illness into work and training. It is open to people who are in receipt of certain benefits such as Incapacity Benefit or Income Support (with a disability premium).
Your local JobcentrePlus office should have a Disability Employment Advisor who will work with you to help you find, secure and keep paid work. They can also help you access suitable training or obtain grants to set up in business.
