Around 25 per cent of parents are not claiming the extra £250 child trust fund payment when their children reach the age of seven, according to government statistics.
The Child Trust Fund is a savings and investment account for children. All parents of children born after September 2002 receive a £250 voucher from the Government when their baby is born and a second payment when their child reaches the age of seven.
"It's important our members know what benefits are out there for them" said general secretary John Hannett.
