Get involved in the First Time Families Campaign

Usdaw wants to do more to support members who are parents, particularly new parents. We want to ensure that low paid members claim the money they are entitled to and also understand their rights at work to time off for family reasons.

Usdaw reps have a vital role to play in helping raise awareness of the rights of new parents. You may have new parents in your workplace or members who are expecting a baby.

You can help by doing one or more of the following:

• Put the First Time Families poster (R41) on your Union noticeboard
• Theme your Union noticeboard – fill it with First Time Families Campaign materials for a few days to make an impression.
• Give a copy of First Time Families (Leaflet 368) to Usdaw members who have recently had a baby or who are expecting a baby.
• Carry out a survey of staff.
• Check that new and expectant parents, both men and women, have got a copy of Usdaw’s Maternity and Parental Rights Pack which explains their rights both before and after the baby arrives.
