Usdaw’s award winning Freedom From Fear campaign making you safer at work
18 July 2006
The latest on our Freedom From Fear campaign.
- As Network went to press Usdaw's annual Respect for Shopworkers Day on 12th July 2006 was in full swing. This highly successful event is now in its fourth year.
- Our own research shows dealing with shoplifters accounts for 66 per cent of violent incidents in stores.
- Violence against shopworkers was up by 14 per cent in 2004, and verbal abuse against shopworkers was up by 35 per cent, a survey by the British Retail Consortium revealed - the worst figures for over a decade.
- Preventing under-age sales 'No ID, No Sale' campaign supports the introduction of a compulsory proof of age scheme to prevent under-age sales - often a flashpoint for violence and abuse against shopworkers.
- Usdaw has a range of campaign materials packed with information on how to get involved and how to make your workplace safer.
- For more information contact your local rep or office or visit the Freedom From Fear section on the Usdaw web site.
