CICA – The Facts
24 June 2006
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority CICA is a government-funded scheme set up to compensate anyone who has been injured because of a violent crime. Usdaw members will be given legal assistance to make a claim.
Remember you have to follow strict rules and to qualify you must have:
- Been a victim of a crime of violence, and either physically or psychologically injured as a result.
- Reported the incident personally to the police as soon as possible after it happened.
- Been injured seriously enough to qualify for at least the minimum award.
- Sent off your application within two years from the date of the incident.
If you have been a victim of crime, or for more information, speak to your union rep or your local Usdaw office.
Usdaw has recovered more than £1.5 million for its members over the last five years under the CICA scheme .
