Campaign to protect shopworkers from violence and abuse

Usdaw members are in the firing line as violent crime continues to increase. This leaflet explains the problem and what together Usdaw members can do about it.

To help tackle all the problems our members face, Usdaw has launched a major campaign to work with retail companies, police and politicians to raise awareness of what shopworkers have to put up with and to bring about improvements for our members.

I am asking for your help to campaign for improvements in safety measures at work and for more resources to help prevent crime in stores and shopping centres. The broad aims of the campaign are set out below.

I am asking you to help by:

• Promoting the campaign in your workplace using the poster and distributing supplies of leaflets to staff.

• Making your workplace as safe as possible, using the checklist The Campaign in Your Workplace to assess the problems, put solutions in place and support all staff at risk.

• Lobbying the Government by getting signatures on petitions and writing to your local MP and Labour Party using the checklist The Political Campaign.
