Freedom From Fear
The Freedom from Fear Campaign seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers. It has four main aims, to:
Shocking research reveals that every minute of the working day a shopworker is verbally abused, threatened with violence or physically attacked. Since the campaign was launched in 2002 we have held annual Respect for Shopworkers events to promote the campaign. We have gained the support of the major retail employers and the Government is delivering for our members. Respect for Shopworkers Week took place on 2nd - 6th November 2009. Further InformationAn age-old problem - 01 December 2009Usdaw won massive parliamentary support when it took its campaign to Westminster to highlight the dangers faced by shopworkers when they sell age-restricted goods.... Respect Week 2009 - 30 November 2009 Usdaw’s latest survey on the abuse faced by shopworkers gave this year’s Respect Week added impetus as reps urged customers to – Keep your Cool – in the run up to Christmas.... Activists urged to get involved - 14 October 2009 Usdaw’s Freedom From Fear campaign seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers. This year Usdaw is organising a Respect for Shopworkers Week to highlight these important issues and raise awareness amongst shopworkers, customers, employers and politicians.... Use the survey to find out more about your members’ experiences - 12 October 2009 Usdaw has sent out a Retail Staff Survey (part of the Reps’ Briefing mailing) to all reps to help them collect information from their members about their experience of abuse and violence at work.... Customers urged to Keep Your Cool - 10 October 2009 In the run-up to Christmas members know that incidents of verbal abuse increase dramatically during the festive period. Customers are stressed, stores are really busy and things can boil over. While most shoppers are perfectly law-abiding, some think they can shout and abuse staff for no good reason – Usdaw wants to stop all that.... |
