Your protection at work

It was another great year for Usdaw’s Legal Plus service, which recovered more than £17.5m on behalf of members who were injured or treated unfairly in 2007.

"There were 12,300 applications for legal assistance which means that 1 in 29 members called on the union's legal service," said general secretary John Hannett. "Personal injury compensation accounted for £16.1m. There were 3,695 free will applications and 2,609 non-work related applications for advice. All part of our first-class service to members and one that non-members can't afford to be without."

What is Legal Plus?

• This is the union's free legal service available to members the minute they join Usdaw.
• It offers advice and representation from lawyers who specialise in work-related cases.
• Members keep every penny of their compensation, with no hidden fees for insurance premiums, unlike many so-called 'no win no fee' companies.

Had an accident? Make a claim...

• Report the incident to management and enter it in the accident book as soon as you can.
• Seek medical attention as soon as possible.
• Speak to your union rep or ring your local office for advice.
• Fill in Legal Plus form BL1
• Continue to pay your union subs.
