Welcome to this first issue of arena 2008 especially to the thousands of new members who will be seeing this award-winning magazine for the first time.
Our recruitment and organising work goes hand in hand with our campaigning efforts. High on that list this year will be our campaign to protect agency and migrant workers to ensure they are not exploited and that permanent staff do not lose out in terms of their pay and conditions.
Other issues we will be pursuing this year will include rights for working parents and carers; our Freedom From Fear campaign, which promotes respect for staff, and our Check Out Learning campaign, which encourages staff to take up courses to help them as individuals and as employees.
You can see in Arena just how much Usdaw is helping its members and, just as importantly, how union members are helping themselves and their colleagues to enjoy better working conditions.
