Christmas Day Trading outlawed in Scotland

It’s been a phenomenal year for Usdaw’s campaigns – further strengthening the union’s reputation as the campaigning union. Here is a look back at the highlights of the last 12 months, a year which has seen more and more reps and members get involved in union activity.

Workers in Scotland won the right to have Christmas Day off after the union lobbied the Scottish parliament to introduce a law banning large shops from opening on December 25. The law, given Royal Assent in April, follows closely on from Usdaw's successful campaign to ban Christmas Day trading in England and Wales in 2006.
