Holiday increase

Your question answered.

I've heard the number of holidays is being increased, is this correct?

The minimum number of statutory holidays is set to increase from 1 October 2007 from 20 to 24 days for full-time workers and pro rata for other workers. This will increase from 24 to 28 days in April 2009.

This is part of the Government's drive to ensure every worker has a legal minimum entitlement to holidays. It is also a way of preventing unscrupulous employers from counting the UK's eight bank/public holidays as part of a worker's holiday entitlement.

However for most Usdaw members they will be already entitled to more than the legal minimum because of their contractual entitlement to both annual leave and bank/public holidays.

More details on the forthcoming changes at: www.berr.gov.uk/employment/holidays
