Reps uncover a yearning for learning in store
Usdaw’s latest campaign is to deliver learning to thousands of retail staff so they can improve both their skills and career prospects.
A team effort at the Tesco store in Burnage, Greater Manchester, saw reps and officials spread the word on learning to hundreds of retail staff.
With company support project worker Denise Gordon, two academy organising officers and the in-store team of reps had the ideal opportunity to speak face-to-face to members who were very interested to know what was on offer.
"We spent two days in the store and the level of enthusiasm was very high," said Denise.
"We put posters up in-store in advance of our visit so members knew when we were coming and this helped to keep everyone informed.
"Credit to the company which has been very supportive and gave the reps the time off to explain to the members what Check Out Learning is all about.
"The days certainly helped raise the profile of the union and I think many members were pleasantly surprised that Usdaw is so keen to promote skills.
"We picked up 37 new members over the two days, generated a lot of interest in learning, so all-in-all it was a very successful event. Many thanks to all the reps who helped out."
