Insurance policy for Allan pays off
Dairy supervisor Allan Sutton showed he had a lot of bottle when he carried on working despite falling heavily, cutting his hand, and sustaining leg and shoulder injuries at his Express Dairies depot in Southport, Lancashire.
The accident happened in 2003, four years later Usdaw's Legal Plus service won Allan £4,000 in compensation - double the amount he was initially offered. "At the time I wasn't sure I could make a claim but contacted the union anyway" said the 64 year-old. "After filling the form in I was given a solicitor who explained everything to me and provided a very professional service.
"I always had a good working relationship with Express and, fair play to the company, it was very accommodating. I was put on light duties and when I had time off work because of the accident I was paid in full without any hassle.
"I had a few medical examinations and the consultant has told me that the injuries will stay with me although they are unlikely to get worse. Thankfully I'm a pretty fit bloke and had never had time off from work before.
"I'm still working and still a member of Usdaw. It's my insurance policy at work."
Remember!
Legal Plus also covers members for any accident - any time, any place - not just at work. It can also provide advice and assistance in road traffic accident cases for members' families, who share the same household.
