“I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch that...”
Do you struggle to hear the TV or always have to ask people to repeat what they have said?
If so, you may be one of the four million people in the UK who experience hearing loss but take no action. As part of its Breaking the Sound Barrier Campaign, RNID, the national charity for deaf and hard of hearing people, is encouraging anyone who may be experiencing hearing loss to take its five minute, confidential telephone hearing check by dialling 0845 600 5555.
RNID is also keen to highlight that every deaf and hard of hearing person is entitled to continue working, and with the right support from employers, shouldn't experience problems. Employers have a legal duty under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) to make reasonable adjustments to the workplace.
More than 40 per cent of people over 50 will experience some degree of hearing loss and with more of the workforce having to work longer due to changes in pension provision, large numbers of employees with hearing loss may find it difficult to continue working.
Anyone concerned about their level of hearing is encouraged to take the phone hearing test on 0845 600 55 55 which is only the cost of a local call.
