    There’s no excuse for verbal abuse
    Usdaw campaigners handed out red cards to remind shoppers that verbal abuse will not be tolerated in the UK’s shops and supermarkets. The football-themed event was the focus for the union’s third annual national Respect for Shopworkers Day and saw activists set up publicity stalls with petitions, promotional whistles, balloons and campaign leaflets.

    I was delighted that the Government decided not to carry out proposals to extend Sunday trading for the big retailers. We said all along that this would put pressure on our members and disrupt family life even more. In the end the Government agreed with us and we won the day.
