'It couldn't have been easier. I had quick friendly advice'

Joan is a 64 year-old Safeway pharmacy assistant from Mansfield

A trip to a Sunday market turned sour for Joan Norbury-Lea after faulty paving caused her to fall and break her ankle. Thankfully Usdaw stepped in to help ease the pain.

"It all happened so quickly," said Joan. "One minute I was walking along chatting to my friend the next I was on the ground in agony."

Joan was told she had sprained her ankle but a follow up appointment some weeks later confirmed the ankle was broken. "It was a very stressful time," she said.

Joan, an experienced union rep, knew exactly where to go for advice. "I made a quick call to the union's Legal Department in Manchester to check if I had a claim. "It couldn't have been easier. I had quick, friendly, professional advice straight away. My case was settled earlier this year and I kept every penny of my £10,000 compensation award.

"My accident wasn't at work but Usdaw still took up my case. So remember Usdaw could help you with a claim, anytime, anyplace, anywhere."
