Boots in distribution restructure
Usdaw has entered into consultations with Boots after the company announced proposals to centralise its retail supply chain – a move which could have an impact on the long term job security of union members.
"We have a long standing and positive relationship with Boots and as part of that consultation we will be closely examining the proposal to see if there are any other options to centralising the existing supply chain," said National Officer Joanne McGuinness.
"This proposal to centralise the existing supply chain over the next three years will have implications for the company's 17 distribution sites. Any future job losses could be mitigated with redeployment, relocation, re-skilling and natural wastage. We will be closely examining the proposals to make sure every possible option is explored.
"Our commitment is to make sure that our members are kept fully informed of any developments during the coming months so we would urge our members to read the information pack provided by the company.
"If they have questions then they should contact their Usdaw rep to make sure they fully understand all of the implications during what will undoubtedly be a worrying time for members."
