Usdaw delivers for long time member
Long time member Maureen Costello put her faith in Usdaw and was not disappointed when she was awarded £18,500 in compensation after an accident at work.
The part-time sales assistant injured her back when a fully laden cage crashed into her at the Tesco store in Formby, Merseyside in December 2001.
"Usdaw backed me every step of the way," said Maureen, 50. "Solicitors fees, medical bills, physio appointments, everything was paid for by the union.
"The incident happened so quickly it took me completely unawares. The impact sent me crashing to the floor. I was badly shaken and winded.
"I went to see my GP the next day and he told me to rest and take painkillers and anti-inflammatory tablets.
"Thankfully, my union rep Sandra Harris contacted me as soon as she heard about the accident. She was brilliant.
"Sandra advised me to fill in a claim form and even sat down and helped me with it. It couldn't have been easier.
"My union solicitor was fantastic. Very approachable and down to earth and always at the end of the phone if I had a query.
"My union membership is very valuable to me. I've been a member now for 19 years and there's no way I'll be giving it up, for me Usdaw is everything I need."
