Retailers queue up for Littlewoods
At least 70 of the 80 Littlewoods stores which will not be converted to Primark have attracted widespread interest from high street retailers including BHS, TK Maxx, and TJ Hughes.
In the most recent development New Look has recently bought 34 of the stores for £11m leaving 46 up for grabs. Primark will re-brand 40 of the 120 stores it bought from the Barclay family in July this year for £409m.
Primark will continue to trade the Littlewoods stores until March next year. Any unsold stores will then be closed. "The consultation process has already begun," said national officer John Gorle. "We will be doing everything we can to help redeploy Littlewoods staff and advise members who are transferred to new companies of their rights."
