Value for money for Anita

When checkout operator Anita Williams developed a niggling pain in her left arm she immediately turned to Usdaw for help.

The union secured £5,000 in compensation for her after expert medical treatment revealed a repetitive strain injury.

"Usdaw was brilliant and sorted everything out for me," said Anita, 36, whose problems started five years ago when she worked as a checkout operator for Kwik Save in Kirkby, Merseyside. "My job required a lot of heavy lifting and as the pain in my arm started to occur more regularly I went to see my doctor. He said he thought it could be work-related.

"I was relieved when a repetitive strain injury was diagnosed because this confirmed my thoughts. Then the union stepped in.

"As my case progressed Usdaw provided a team of professionals, including medical consultants, solicitors and even a barrister.

"The union's help was invaluable. I couldn't have got a result without it. I'd have no hesitation in calling on Usdaw again next time I have a problem. I've certainly had my money's worth."
