Vital support

Everyone should join the union according to forklift truck driver John Stancombe, who was awarded substantial damages after an accident at work.

"We've seen the difference at my depot since the union came on board," said John, 38, who works for ACC distribution in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

"I always call on the union for help whenever I need to and I did exactly that in 2003 when I injured the metatarsals in my right foot after a fall in the warehouse.

"Medical experts recommended an operation but this was complicated by my condition as a diabetic. I'm still off work and in a lot of pain," added John. "I have good days and bad days but thanks to the union I have some financial stability for the future, which gives real peace of mind. There's no way I'd be without my union membership."
