Poem for all Parents and Carers!

From Jan Albert, Manchester Gusco K6

When did it change, this caring condition?
I never asked to be in this position
This role reversal from when I was born
For other jobs you'd get a form

While you're caring for someone what can we do?
There's no easy solution, we all know that's true
But, it's something we all need to address
To take away your burden and stress

Raise awareness tell people their rights
take away their reason for their sleepless nights
negotiate with companies for flexible hours
Before the delicate relationship sours

Children, parents the list doesn't end
Family comes first their need you must tend
The reasons for time off aren't getting rarer
Life doesn't stop when you become a carer

So now, let's sing together one song
Hoping the changes won't take too long
We, in the union have the key to the door
Before the carers become the cared for
