Tesco pay rise

Members at Tesco will get a pay rise in excess of inflation of at least 3.1 per cent after the union’s national forum agreed a new deal with the UK’s biggest retailer.

In addition, closing the pay gap between grade B general assistants and grade C checkout operators will see around 91,000 employees receive a 5 per cent increase, which will effectively eliminate the grade B rate.

Improvements have also been negotiated on paternity and bereavement leave. First aid payments have increased and more than £2 million will be invested in location pay.

Hourly rates at Tesco now range from more than £5.83 for aged over 18. At Express sites the comparable rate is slightly over £5.54. The new rates became effective on July 3, 2005.
