Respect paid to ADM Pat
From Adrian Lane, chair, Mid Sussex General HO23.
It was with a sense of nervous anticipation that I set off for the Annual Delegate Meeting (ADM) this year. I had been elected onto the Standing Orders Committee (SOC) on my first try and wasn't quite sure what to expect.
At our first meeting on Saturday morning, I was introduced to the other members of this year's committee. Firstly there was the chair, Pat Hunter - secretary Theresa Wilcox and her deputy Fiona Wilson. Next were the executive council observers - Anne Hickson and Susan Owen and last but certainly not least my fellow lay members - Bernadette Sherlock, Brian Kenny and John Buckingham.
For those of you who don't know Pat Hunter - he is a man to be respected, having carried out the post of chair for the last 25 years; but as I got to know him over the week it was apparent that he is a deeply passionate and humorous man who cares about the union and its members.
On the last day of ADM while we were on the platform - it was with a sense of dismay that we heard Pat announce that it was his last ADM as Chair of SOC.
It is my personal opinion that he will be sorely missed and that finding someone to take his place will be a difficult task.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to Pat for making my stay on the committee enjoyable and I wish him every success in whatever he decides to do. Pat we salute you.
