Risk assessment advice proves popular

Usdaw’s advice to pregnant women on their health and safety at work has attracted massive interest on the union’s web site.

The leaflet Pregnancy risk assessment checklist (part of a series of leaflets in the Supporting Parents and Carers campaign) has been downloaded more than 1,000 times by interested visitors to the site.

The leaflet outlines all of the major risks to pregnant workers including;

  • Manual handling
  • Protective equipment
  • Hazardous substances
  • Posture and movement
  • Working temperatures
  • Working hours
  • Work-related stress

Employers have a legal duty to protect pregnant women and their unborn baby from any work-related risks and the leaflet helps to explain what should be done to ensure a safe working environment.

For a copy of the leaflet contact your local Usdaw office or download it from: www.usdaw.org.uk/campaigns
