Legal Plus gives value for money
Value for money, that’s what part-time Tesco worker Caroline Grogan said about Usdaw’s Legal Plus service when she received more than £7,000 in compensation after a work-related injury.
During her five years with Tesco in Blackpool, the 31 year-old had started to experience severe back pain and was forced to take time off.
"I worked as a picker selecting orders for internet shopping customers," said the mother-of-two. "I'd had numerous problems with the trolleys I used to collect the orders, such as the wheels jamming, which put a tremendous strain on my back. One day I couldn't even lift a two litre bottle of pop."
Caroline's GP told her that she had incurred a repetitive type injury to her back and prescribed strong painkillers.
"It was only by chance that I was speaking to my union rep Yvonne Mathieson a few months later," said Caroline. "She advised me to contact the union's legal department. I was told that I had a case and that Usdaw would take care of everything for me. Best of all, it didn't cost me a penny.
"My solicitors were brilliant so a big thank you to them and Yvonne, who was influential in getting me moved to another department to help make life easier for me."
