Every little helps on childcare

The UK’s biggest supermarket chain Tesco is doing its bit to ease the pressure on working parents.

At the company's 'regeneration' stores, a partnership with local Job Centre Plus makes childcare available to staff during the 8-10 week training period. It also helps with finding suitable care during working hours.

"Our Regeneration Partnership stores are about enabling people to work if they want to," said Tesco's Regeneration Manager Andrew Smith. "Lone parents are our biggest group of recruits, so finding high quality childcare is obviously key to helping them get the training they need to get back into work. This helps Tesco to recruit people with a lot of skills and strengthens our links with the community."

Usdaw is keen to encourage more employers to get involved in childcare. "High quality childcare is vital for every working parent," said John Hannett. "We are working with employers because it is in their interests too for their staff to have the peace of mind that their children are well cared for when they are at work."
