Give Christmas back to families

From Alan Trainer, Northern Private Trades F176.

I totally agree with Jeff Allsop (Letters Nov/Dec Arena) that families don't get enough quality time together at Christmas.

I work for IKEA and our store follows the Swedish approach to holidays and is closed for three days over Christmas.

I think it's about time the Government looked at the holidays our European counterparts enjoy and bring the UK into line with them.

We hear a lot from the Government about how far ahead of Europe we are but that's not the case on bank holidays.

Over here much of big business opens on Boxing Day which really should be reserved for families.

Having a good Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends and not just about putting money through the tills.
