Safeway stores sale
Morrisons has invited offers from other retailers for up to 120 of its smaller stores currently trading under the Safeway Compact facia.
The offer is likely to attract interest from the Co-op, Waitrose, Somerfield and the Big Food Group and could see a further shake-up in the hotly contested convenience sector.
Supermarket giant Tesco, Asda/Wal-Mart and Sainsbury are unlikely to enter the fray as it would throw up competition issues and Morrisons would be unlikely to want to increase the market share of their main rivals.
